Naloxone (Narcan) is a drug that reverses an opioid overdose. All schools with grades 7 -12, within the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, have a Naloxone kit and have staff members trained to respond to an overdose.
The Health Unit provides free nasal spray Narcan (naloxone) kits to people who:
- are currently using opioids or have a history of opioid use, OR
- are family members or friends of someone who uses opioids.
Anyone with a health card can also go to participating pharmacies and receive a free naloxone kit. For a list of locations please visit the Ontario Naloxone Program’s website https://www.ontario.ca/page/where-get-free-naloxone-kit
If anyone would like further information please visit the Health unit website http://www.healthunit.org/ or call the Health ACTION Line at 1-800-660-5853 and ask for Harm Reduction.
